TEHRAN (IRNA) -- President Mohammad Khatami here on Thursday referring to the fact that peace cannot be imposed, said that it is materialized in case justice is administered. He said Islam of Ahlulbait (AS), the infallible household of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), is the harbinger of peace.

Addressing the 3rd International Conference on Ahlulbait (AS), Thursday afternoon, he added that the Islam of Ahlulbait (AS) is a harbinger of the unity of Umma and respect for man, while it severely confronts violation.

Denouncing the idea of conflict among civilizations, the president noted, "We are a harbinger of religious democracy and advocate broad-based national progress in scientific, economic and technological fields.

"We support the oppressed and those subjected to pain and suffering around the world, especially in the world of Islam," he added.

Speaking at a gathering of hundreds of world intellectuals and gifted individuals, President Khatami turned to the Islam of Ahlulbait as the harbinger of wisdom, independence, progress, freedom, justice, dialogue and kindness.

"Given that today disciples of Ahlulbait all across the Muslim world are the harbingers of unity and solidarity, on the eve of the World Ahlulbait Assembly, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued the order for formation of the Assembly for Amity of the Islamic Sects," he added.

President Khatami reiterated that the two institutions are complementary to each other.

The Third International Conference on Ahlulbait (AS), opened in Tehran thursday with participation of some 500 intellectuals from 84 world countries.

The agenda of the meeting includes reports to be presented by Muslim scholars and intellectuals, review of the problems of the Islamic world and future programs of the World Ahlulbait Assembly.
